AN UNEXPECTED GIFT

Our agency recently received a large   donation from Isabel and William B.  Waugh given in memory of Jean Martin who was a neighbour of the Waughs and a client of Scarborough  Support Services for many years.  In her letter to us Mrs. Waugh complimented our agency for the caring attention given to Jean Martin by our workers who specialize in TLC.  Here is a quote from that letter: “They were cheerful and capable of the many tasks required of them. They made Jeanie’s days pleasant and latterly her nights safer at home.” Our sincere gratitude to the Waughs for this generous gift.

FUNDRAISING UPDATE

Our Fundraising Committee continues its good work in bringing financial help for our agency.  Here are some of the ongoing items.

Bingo- Profits for this venture have deteriorated somewhat in the past year and now are approximately $3,500 per month.  Bingo has been a steady income for Scarborough Support Services for more than seven years.

Craft Group- Over $1,222 has been brought in so far this   year through the sale of goods made by our craft group.   They continue to have sales at various places with one    coming on November 28-30 at Agincourt Mall.  The women would be glad of our support at this sale.  Just appearing on the scene and wishing them well gives them a good feeling that their work is appreciated.

Direct Mail Campaign- To the end of September              this campaign has received a total of  $6,590 and it is still      coming.

News & Views Appeal- In our last issue we included a    request for donations through a form on the back page.  To      the end of September we have received $3,215.  A similar form  is in this issue.  We are grateful for the support that our          readers have given to this appeal.

THE GREAT EXODUS

The move to our new premises at 1045 McNicoll Avenue occurred on September 13, 2002.  This was not our first move but certainly it was the biggest because of the large increase in the number of employees, equipment and supplies when compared to our last move to 1450 Midland Avenue.  Good planning and excellent organization by staff made the move smooth and efficient. The new location is owned by Scarborough Support Services and will be our home for many years.  The building is in an office complex area but has the appearance of a large substantial home.  Clients should see it as a home instead of a sterile office building.

The staff are happy with the premises and have settled into their new location with a minimum of confusion.  Some changes are necessary to make the building more accessible and they will be accomplished as time and resources permit.  A ramp has been installed at the front door and it is hoped that we will one day be able to install a lift.  The office is located on three floors and a lift may be necessary for some of our clients

It is a good move to a good location that we can call our own.  Thank you to everyone who helped to get the job done.
