Scarborough Support ServicesNews & ViewsInside this issue:Text Box: PRESIDENT CORNER
In the past issue, of NEWS AND VIEWS, I drew to your attention some of the formidable challenges Scarborough Support Services has encountered in the past, continues to face in the present and that it is likely to experience in the future. In that issue, I stressed that the critical and most urgent problem that must be solved was the acquisition of adequate premises to accommodate the agency’s administrative personnel and senior recreation day program. Today, I am happy to report that with your help, the agency has been able to acquire suitable physical facilities on McNicoll just east of Victoria Park. As a result, by the time this Newsletter reaches you, we will have moved to this new location.
The purchase of the property was accomplished through a significant capital outlay much of which was acquired through debt financing and generous donations from clients, volunteers, funders, sponsors and the public at large. Our sincere thanks goes out to all who have made financial contributions to this worthy cause. This goal could not have been achieved without diligence and perseverance by both the Board and staff of the agency. There were alternatives with possibilities and probabilities following as consequences of action. FINAL ANSWERS and SOLUTIONS at times seemed elusive, but so too, are the answers to all problems of living.
It is not the intention here to take you on our excursion of the various places of occupancy since the establishment of the agency, but the Board of Directors, the administration staff and volunteers would all be remiss if those who led us along the occupancy pathway to the present were not given due recognition.
During the past twenty six years of operation, the agency has been fortunate to have sponsors from a variety of supporters including the Scarborough Board of Education, especially the principals of various schools that provided us with office and program space in the early years. Ten years ago the agency was provided head office space at reduced rates through the cooperation of the City of Scarborough’s Planning Department, Ronto Developments and SF Management Company. Recognition also goes out to the City of Toronto, Parks and Recreation Department for providing us with accommodation at various community centres to hold our Congregate Dining, Craft Group, Adult Day Program, Annual General Meetings and Volunteer Recognition events over the many years.
I am also pleased to inform you that we have been able to modernize and rehabilitate the new premises to better serve the need of our clients, staff, volunteers and board members. However to add to its accessibility the installation of a vertical lift (elevator) is needed. This installation would require a hefty dose of expenditure and the agency is soliciting donations to help in its administration. Thank you for your generous donations in the past as we look towards a continuance in the future. Please remember that together we can continue to make a difference.

President
